Volkswagen has unveiled a series of updates for the 2026 ID. Buzz, bringing more power, improved technology, and better usability. However, these enhancements are currently limited to European and UK markets, with North American customers set to miss out on the 2026 model year entirely.

The most significant addition is the new ID. Buzz Pro 4Motion, which introduces a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering 335 horsepower (250 kW). This level of performance was previously exclusive to the sportier GTX variant. The standard short-wheelbase model comes with a 79 kWh battery, while the long-wheelbase version is equipped with an 86 kWh pack.

More importantly, the switch to all-wheel drive isn't just about improved traction. Towing capacity has been increased by 600 kg (1,323 lbs) compared to rear-wheel-drive models, bringing the maximum to 1,800 kg (3,968 lbs) for the standard version. The longer, heavier model sees a slightly reduced towing capacity of 1,600 kg (3,527 lbs).

Volkswagen is also using this update to refine the cabin, focusing on usability while adding new technology. The ID. Buzz now features the latest Innovision infotainment system, offering cleaner menus and access to a new App Store covering audio, video streaming, parking, charging, and even gaming. This system is already available in the ID.3 Neo and will be rolled out to the facelifted Caddy and Transporter T7 later this year.

One of the most welcome changes is the return of physical buttons on the steering wheel, replacing the previously criticized touch-sensitive controls. However, Volkswagen has retained the touch sliders below the main screen, which remain a point of contention for some users.

Another practical upgrade is the addition of Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing the ID. Buzz to power external devices like e-bikes or other equipment through a dedicated adapter. This effectively turns the van into a mobile power source when needed.

The fully electric microbus will also finally offer one-pedal driving, enabling regenerative braking to bring the vehicle to a complete stop when the driver lifts their foot off the accelerator. Additionally, safety equipment has been improved with the optional Connected Travel Assist, which includes traffic light recognition.

The 2026 VW ID.Buzz is set to arrive at European and UK dealerships this summer. While these updates are currently exclusive to the other side of the Atlantic, there is a possibility they could be applied to the US-spec ID.Buzz for the 2027 model year.
