Chery KP31 Pickup Interior: Premium Features & Hybrid Power

Chinese automaker Chery is set to make waves in the Australian pickup market with its upcoming KP31 model, a plug-in hybrid diesel truck designed to challenge established rivals like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux.

The KP31's interior marks a significant departure from traditional pickup truck design, featuring a sophisticated two-tone tan-and-black color scheme. The dashboard incorporates a large central infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, and Alcantara accents on the upper section, creating a more premium atmosphere than typically found in this segment.

Function meets form with robust control elements including large toggle switches for climate control, substantial rotary knobs, slim air vents, and dual wireless charging pads. The truck also features a heavy-duty gear selector and physical controls for off-road modes, locking differentials, and heated/ventilated seats.

Under the hood, the KP31 will debut with what Chery claims is the first plug-in hybrid diesel powertrain of its kind, centered around a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. While specific power figures haven't been released, the manufacturer targets impressive capability with up to 1,000 kg payload and 3,500 kg towing capacity.

Built on a ladder frame chassis to meet traditional workhorse expectations, the KP31 is scheduled for first customer deliveries before the end of 2026. Though pricing hasn't been officially announced, industry estimates suggest a starting price around AU$60,000, positioning it directly against competitors like the BYD Shark 6, Ford Ranger, and Toyota Hilux.
