Porsche 911 GT3 RS Manthey Kit vs Mustang GTD: Nürburgring Battle
Porsche recently showcased the capabilities of the 911 GT3 RS equipped with the Manthey Kit on the legendary Nürburgring circuit. The track-focused modifications pushed the car to an impressive lap time of 6:45.389, placing it just under five seconds behind the new Mustang GTD Competition's record of 6:40.835.
The Manthey Kit shaved nearly four seconds off the regular car's lap time - a significant improvement where every fraction of a second matters on this challenging track.
Former racing driver Jörg Bergmeister piloted the car, noting: "We put so much work into the lap time that it was simply time for the weather to play along. The car was perfectly prepared, and I'm really happy with the lap. It's truly amazing how much you can achieve with the Manthey Kit, especially on the fast and medium-speed sections of the track."
Porsche explained that the Manthey Kit enables drivers to maintain full throttle in sections that are nearly impossible for regular road cars. The company specifically highlighted the section between Pflanzgarten II and Schwalbenschwanz as an area where the car can go flat out.
The Manthey Kit for the 911 GT3 RS features extensive aerodynamic upgrades including a new front lip, revised Gurney flaps, and a larger rear wing. These are complemented by canards, roof fins, a wider rear diffuser, and carbon fiber aero discs that reduce drag. Thanks to these modifications, the car generates 20% more downforce without additional drag.
Other enhancements include an upgraded braking system and a semi-active coilover suspension with revised spring rates. The rear window has been replaced with a carbon fiber panel featuring a vertical shark fin to improve cornering stability. The car can also be equipped with optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, which were fitted on the Nürburgring record attempt.
